LA Select

Tryouts

Every LA Select team is tryout-based and every tryout is free. Youth tryouts are by appointment.

Youth tryouts, 8u to 14u

Boys and girls, 2nd-8th grade. By appointment at Academy USA, 1219 Los Angeles St, Glendale, CA 91204 (opens in new tab).

How it works

  1. Register online

    Registration by a legal guardian is required before attending tryouts.

  2. Get invited to a practice

    Depending on the experience listed, players can be invited to a team practice.

  3. Hear back by email

    Tryout results will be released within 1-3 days via email.

Good to know

  • All tryouts are free and open to all.
  • Players from the previous season will not be invited to our open tryouts.
  • If not selected, players are invited to join our Jr Hoops League and/or are welcome to re-tryout after six months.
  • We have up to three teams per division (Blue, White and Red).
  • Make up tryouts will be available.

High school tryouts, 15u to 17u

Boys and girls, 9th-12th grade, at Academy USA.

Who can try out

  • Players must have played on a high school team in the most recent season.
  • Open to current high school players, 9th through 12th grade.

Good to know

  • Registration is required (by participant or parent) before attending tryouts.
  • All tryouts are free and open to all.
  • Tryout results will be released via email within 1-3 business days.
  • Practices start in March.
  • We’ll likely have multiple teams per division.
  • Make-up tryouts are available for a missed session and for players still competing in CIF playoffs.

Ability and coachability
Skill level, fundamentals, effort, and willingness to learn and improve.
Team impact
How the player competes, communicates, and makes teammates better.
Attitude and character
Attitude, sportsmanship, response to adversity, and overall mindset.
Commitment
Family commitment, attendance, and buy-in to our team culture.
